“Bang Bang” Shrimp & Black Beans & Rice

While birthday vacationing in Fort Lauderdale, FL, I stop by “Rendezvous” restaurant that was recommended by the hotel clerk. It was located in a marina area, where all the “well to do” dock their boats and yachts. To enjoy the marina scenery, I ask the waitress to sit me outside on the deck where deck and water met. There were two other patrons already on the deck enjoying of what appeared to be a delicious looking meal. All I know, I was starving from being in the air all day long. I wanted something light, so I went with the “Bang Bang” Shrimp and Black Beans & Rice” to fuel me up. While waiting for my food arrive, I would often look down in the water and say to myself, “Wonder if there are any alligators in that water?” But easily convinced myself, “The water was too calm for one to be lurking around down there.”

When my food was finally sat on the table, I dived into those big shrimps and took two spoonfuls of the beans. It was delicious! Before I could dive into the second shrimp, I happened to look down to the right of the deck and jumped out the chair and start scream. Lord and behold, it was long green snake looking IGUANA! At first glimpse, it looked like a baby alligator. I grabbed my food (was not that scared enough to leave meal behind) and ran inside the restaurant screaming! The patrons and staff in the restaurant weren’t shaken with me screaming. And the patrons outside were taking photos of it-like they were accustomed to an IGUANA sighting. You would have thought it was an “A” list celebrity they were snapping photos of it. The waitress should have forewarn me of an IGUANA encounter when I requested to eat outside on the deck. It would have made my eating experience calming. And because she did not inform me about the critter, there will be a crumb removed from their review.

Crumb Rating: “Rendezvous” restaurant gets 4 Crumbs for their “Bang Bang” Shrimp and Black Beans & Rice” but 1 less crumb (Would have gotten a 5 Crumbs if it wasn’t a special appearance by “Mr. IGUANA”). There’s no need for me to give you any advice about where you should be seated when you visit “Rendezvous,” restaurant-because you are now fully aware of the critter, who will greet you on the outside deck-if you request to be seated there!”
